The City of Naperville’s Finance Department is looking for a Payroll Analyst to join the payroll team. This position will be participating in the handling of day-to-day payroll functions, as well as calculating and preparing paperwork for remittance of third-party payments, ensuring compliance with applicable IRS regulations, union contracts and citywide policies, and producing bi-weekly payroll reports for management.  The Payroll Analyst will analyze payroll and benefit-related data and prepare reports to provide accurate information to management, including payroll forecasting for budget purposes.

  • Performs payroll processing functions including data entry, data verification and correction, and documentation of data adjustments.
  • Responds to internal and external payroll inquiries and resolves problems in a timely and effective manner.
  • Process payroll related filings and reports related to pensions, insurance and other employee benefits.
  • Processes pay garnishments in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ensures all taxes are paid timely, completes all bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly IRS related tax documents.
  • Interprets language from collective bargaining agreements and translates into accurate mathematical calculations for appropriate payroll processing.
  • Maintains organized and accurate payroll files and records.
  • Responds to questions regarding all benefit time usage and accruals.
  • Assists in the preparation of payroll and benefit projections as part of the annual budget process.
  • Assists with year-end processing, payroll clearing corrections, annual accruals and audit projects.
  • Analyzes data from multiple sources to identify trends in wage and benefit costs and prepare reports for management.
  • Researches, recommends, and implements procedural changes to improve and enhance payroll processing operations.
