The primary purpose of the position is to maintain the grounds, facility, equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, their established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Director of Environment of Care, to assure that a successful maintenance program is maintained at all times. • Ensure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing maintenance procedures.

American Academy of Pediatrics seeks a Disaster Management Initiatives Manager to join their team and manage the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Children and Disasters (COCD) and related disaster management initiatives. Manage the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of AAP policy, advocacy and education related to emergency preparedness and disaster management. Manage the development of publications related to the topics addressed by the COCD, including policy statements, manuals, professional and caregiver education materials, conference proceedings, etc. Coordinate the review/approval process of draft policy and other materials and ensure other interested AAP entities provide input as appropriate. Responsibilities:

• Provide primary staff support for the COCD executive committee and subcommittees, including agenda development, meeting planning, report writing, technical assistance, minute taking and dissemination.
• Lead, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate COCD programs utilizing the AAP policies and procedures for approval and implementation of programs.
• Provide technical assistance, including grant and proposal writing, administration, and reporting for activities related to pediatric emergency preparedness and disaster management.
• In partnership with the Senior Manager, Emerging Threats and Disaster Management, lead and facilitate interdepartmental collaboration to ensure a comprehensive, coordinated, and effective approach to disaster management support for AAP members. Work with other areas of the AAP to coordinate program activities and solicit funding. Coordinate initiatives of the COCD with those of corresponding chapter-level committees and interrelated committees, councils, and sections.
• Organize, implement, and facilitate council virtual and in-person educational activities, including the AAP National   Conference & Exhibition education and scientific abstract program and abstract award offerings. Coordinate with the Committee on Continuing Medical Education and interrelated committees, councils, and sections such as the Committee on Infectious Disease or Section on Emergency Medicine.
• Provide analysis of policy and educational issues related to pediatric emergency preparedness and disaster management and other relevant issues.
• Represent the COCD in a liaison capacity to the AAP Board of Directors and other medical/child advocacy organizations. Coordinate activities of the COCD with medical specialty societies, national partner organizations, and relevant federal entities.
• Answer inquiries and provide technical assistance to members, physicians, allied health professionals, educators, governmental agencies, and other organizations related to pediatric emergency preparedness and disaster management.
• Facilitate the development, review/revision, and approval processes for COCD policy and publications. Edit in-progress publications for readability and consistency of style, and compatibility with existing AAP policy. Coordinate the review/approval process of policy statements to appropriate councils, committees, sections, senior leadership, and the Board of Directors. Manage the editing, copyediting, galley proofing, reference checking, and approval process for draft policy statements, manuals, professional education materials, bibliographies, etc. Provide technical assistance to Board-appointed editors of AAP publications.
• Oversee preparation, development, editing and proofreading of COCD by-laws, newsletters, and annual reports.
• Work with appropriate AAP staff and external groups in the design, production, and promotion/dissemination of publications and assigned resources, including parent educational materials.
• Manage AAP.org, HealthyChildren.org, and other AAP hosted web pages that make up the digital footprint for pediatric emergency management and disaster preparedness in accordance with AAP policies and identity programs.
