The West Chicago Park District seeks a Building Specialist to join their team. Under the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks, the Building Specialist II is responsible for performing various construction and maintenance functions for buildings, park facilities and site amenities related to assets located throughout the Park District. Below lists some responsibilities of the position:

  • Responsible for the daily care, upkeep and long-term preventative maintenance of all Park District buildings and facilities.
  • Responsible for managing property and equipment by identifying, initiating and completing work order requests and repairs, using appropriate levels of safety and cleanliness.
  • Responsible for performing a full range of mechanical work including, but not limited to trouble shooting of equipment for both major and minor repairs.
  • Responsible for maintaining and repairing all aspects of park buildings and facilities, which include, but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry and painting.
  • Responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing environmental systems (such as): HVAC, furnace, boiler units, AC and other facility environmental controls.
  • Responsible for managing the safety and cleanliness of equipment and property by identifying, repairing and inspecting park facilities, equipment and property for wear, damage, vandalism, etc.
  • Responsible for the operation of Park District vehicles, ground equipment and implements.
  • Must be able to use common tools essential to construction and building maintenance.
  • Must be available for supervising and participating in the operation of snow removal equipment on common sidewalks, paths and parking lots.
  • Responsible for prioritizing and re-prioritizing activities within general work plan.
  • Must maintain a pro-active approach to safety and risk management.
  • Must lead custodial staff to ensure clean facilities through training and feedback.
