The Forest Preserve of DuPage County has a Golf Maintenance Technician position open. The Golf Maintenance Technician performs manual labor and technical tasks in the maintenance and construction across the district’s golf courses. This includes assisting with irrigation systems and turf care. Schedule is Monday through Friday 5:00 am to 2:00 pm, and Saturday or Sunday 5:00 am to 8:00 am. Starting Pay: $24.67 – $27.78 per hour. Responsibilities:
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of irrigation and drainage systems and perform regular turf maintenance through mowing, aerating, and pruning trees and shrubs, all to ensure top playing quality.
- Lead and assist in the training of seasonal employees, promoting best practices in maintenance and safety.
- Conduct routine maintenance on tools, machinery, and equipment to maintain working conditions.
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of golf cart paths and fences around the course property.
- Support the construction of new golf course features, including preparing soil and grading turf for plantings.
- Apply fertilizers and plant protectants.
- Transport equipment between multiple district locations as required.
- Perform snow removal and landscaping around the golf clubhouse as needed.
- Assist the supervisor with the selection of staff, scheduling, training, and providing guidance, and communicating day to day tasks and expectations. Relay and provide input regarding work performance, training needs, and growth opportunities.
- Foster a work environment that promotes safe work habits, become familiar with safety rules and procedures, keep work areas clean, and report on any unsafe conditions and incidents.
