The Glenbard Wastewater Authority (“the Authority”) is recruiting for a full-time Maintenance Mechanic I, II, or III position. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the preventative maintenance, repair, and replacement related activities at its advanced treatment facilities, including work on plant machinery, conveyor systems, piping systems, buildings, vehicles, and grounds; and to provide responsive, courteous, and efficient service to the residents of the Villages of Lombard and Glen Ellyn and the general public. Applicants’ extent of experience and qualifications will determine which level of the Maintenance Mechanic role will be filled and which job functions listed below are applicable. JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Maintenance Superintendent in the development of Maintenance Division work plans, provide input on appropriate prioritization of assignments; monitor progress or work assignments and implementation of solutions as required.
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as directed to initiate Preventive and Corrective Maintenance on plant facilities and equipment; help with development of maintenance procedures for plant facilities and equipment; provide updated CMMS records on equipment maintenance and rehabilitation activities.
  • Observe variation in equipment operating conditions; interpret meter and gauge readings; report malfunctions; and use knowledge and experience to take appropriate and immediate corrective action, or recommend potential remedies to Maintenance Superintendent when required.
  • Interpret, develop, read and understand drawings and blueprints; maintain records, make periodic written or oral reports as directed.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on plant machinery and equipment to improve equipment life and avoid unplanned maintenance activities, including:
    • Diagnose and repair of machines, equipment and systems with hand and power tools using pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, safety, electrical, and electronic systems.
    • Inspection for heat, sound, vibration, odor, cleanliness.
    • Oiling and greasing.
    • Participate in minor repairs and equipment installations under supervision as required.
  • Perform proactive scheduled equipment refurbishment and replacement to sustain plant operating requirements.
  • Operation of heavy construction equipment and commercial rated vehicles including: front-end wheel loader, mini-excavator, trencher, semi-tractor trailer combination, 6-wheel dump truck, truck with permanently mounted crane, and/or fork-lift truck.
  • Perform work in “Permit and Non-Permit Required” confined spaces, meet facility safety training requirements, and maintain other required health and safety certifications according to OSHA.
  • Perform precision layout and fabrication of various parts necessary for maintenance activities, using varied metals, plastics, wood, etc. using welding, metal working, pipe threading, cutting, and bending tools.
  • Perform skilled installation and repair of all types of pipes, valves, and appurtenances associated with mechanical pipe fitting and plumbing activities using welding, cutting, heating, bending, straightening, brazing and soldering as required.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of tools, equipment, parts, and perform requisition of parts and materials as necessary for maintenance activities.
  • Participate as a member of the various committees on a rotating basis, such as the Safety Committee, Sustainability Committee, or others that may arise.
  • Assist Operational and Electrical employees as assigned by the Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Conduct functional and technical training for Operations and Electrical Division employees for preventative/predictive mechanical maintenance tasks.
  • Perform data entry to maintain equipment database, maintenance of job details, safety records, maintenance activity assignments, and historical equipment and maintenance activity records.
