The Village of Glen Ellyn is recruiting for an employee in the Utilities Division, which is responsible for maintaining the Village’s drinking water, sanitary, and storm sewer systems. This could be an entry-level opportunity for a Maintenance Worker I (MWI) or, for the right candidate with relevant experience, a Maintenance Worker II (MWII) position. This role performs a variety of tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of public infrastructure, along with playing an integral role in snow and ice control operations. This is a full-time, non-exempt (overtime eligible) position with full benefits and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a defined benefit retirement plan. The hourly pay range for a MWI is $26.71- $37.40 and for a MWII $28.06 – $39.28, actual starting pay to commensurate with experience.
Examples of applicant skills preferred for a MWI but required for a MWII (or an equivalent combination of similar skills and experience):
- Perform JULIE locates for water and sewer
- Operation of backhoe for water and sewer excavations
- Operation of a flusher and/or combination unit for sewer cleaning
- Ability to repair/replace fire hydrants, water valves, water mains & services
- Experience operating sewer televising equipment
- Class ‘B’ CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements
- Class D Illinois EPA Water Operator’s License, Sewer Collections Systems Operator, PACP/LACP certification, or other specialized training/certification related to water and sewer
