The City of Elmhurst has a Marketing and Communications Internship opportunity available. This position is designed to offer undergraduate or graduate students the opportunity to perform a variety of entry level professional administrative work, research, analysis, and project design work in support of the City Manager’s office, Office of Communications. Assignments and projects will involve assistance with the visual communications function, the City’s visitor and tourism marketing and promotion efforts, and a balance of administrative and operational responsibilities. The intern will gain exposure to local government through interaction in the City Manager’s office and with various departments. The duties and responsibilities of the Graphic Design & Marking Communications Intern are designed to prepare the incumbent for a successful career in the graphic design, creative marketing and visual communications field.
This is a year-round, part-time internship for approximately 19 hours per week. Salary is $19.00 per hour. This position is non-exempt.
- Essential Functions:
- Performs entry level professional administrative work, research, analysis, and project design in support of the City Manager’s office, Office of Communications.
- Working with available tools and platforms in the social media space, supports the Communications Manager in producing high quality promotional and informational products.
- Interacts with personnel from each department to ensure effective interdepartmental communication and maximize operational effectiveness.
- Works with community partners and local businesses to promote the City’s visitor and tourism marketing campaign.
- Creates visual designs based on communication needs.
- Attends and participates in various organizational meetings and community events as directed.
- Promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
- Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Program in Graphic Design, Visual Communication or a closely related undergraduate or graduate degree program.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Mobility to work in an office setting, use standard office equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
- Work may involve long periods of computer and office work with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc.
