City of West Chicago is seeking a Mechanic who will make minor and major mechanical repairs on their gasoline and diesel powered automotive, light and heavy construction and other power-driven equipment.
Salary is $65,776.00 – $88,398.00 annually and they offer benefits such as health care, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, pension benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Some responsibilities are the following:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and locate mechanical difficulties on city automobiles, trucks, and a variety of diesel and gasoline powered maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Determine extent of necessary repairs; replace and repair faulty or damaged parts; determine repairs beyond the shop’s capabilities.
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair electrical system compo­nents, ignition systems, computers, alternators, starters and batteries.
  • Diagnose and repair front and rear drive axles, drive train components, belts, gears, chain drives and propeller shafts.
  • Replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms, and related parts and equipment.
  • Overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials, and clutches.
  • Tune up engines by replacing ignition parts and recondi­tioning and adjusting carburetors, throttle body and port fuel injection systems and propane fuel systems.
  • Repair, adjust and replace brake systems including wheel cylinders, masters cylinders, disc pads, machine drums and rotors, hydraulic and air brakes.
  • Weld, fabricate and assemble parts and equipment for city automotive and heavy equipment; fabricate, modify and repair body and chassis parts.
  • Repair and maintain salt and plowing equipment to ensure proper working order for winter season.
  • Repair and maintain small engines including lawn mowers, chain saws, weed eaters, and trimmers; repair shop equipment including air compressors, welders and other tools.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area.
  • Maintain work, time, and material records.
