The DuPage County Public Health Emergency Management Team has a paid internship opportunity available to work as a Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) intern. In this role you will perform work supporting a variety of projects related to the Health Department’s Medical Reserve Corps volunteer unit.
Responsibilities will include, volunteer engagement and outreach, planning, and emergency response exercising under the direction of the assigned supervisor or designee(s). Ability to assist in coordinating volunteer activities and events in order to expand the MRC presence in DuPage County. Supervision is provided by the Public Health Emergency Response Supervisor.

  • Under supervision, the intern provides support for the development of and completion of MRC projects and objectives.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships between the Health Department and community organizations.
  • Assists with recruitment and onboarding efforts, participates in planning activities such as training sessions, drills, and exercises.
  • Assists in mobilizing MRC members in real-word responses, assists in regular communication with MRC members including, but not limited to creation of a quarterly newsletter, sending out event and training opportunities, reviews and makes recommendations to MRC Volunteer Management Plans.
  • Assists in volunteer coordination and organization activities; available to respond to volunteers and/or community partners either in person or over the phone during normal business hours.
  • Attends required internal and external meetings to maintain situational awareness.
  • Assists in the development and revision or products or tools to aid in volunteer engagement.
  • Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to patient privacy laws.
  • Completes required training programs and keeps up to date on Health Department operational policies and procedures.
  • Shows sensitivity and understanding of other ethnic groups and cultures.
  • May represent the agency and MRC unit to various groups, community and professional organizations.
  • Requirements: Current student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, emergency management, social work, or related field with relevant experience or a recent graduate of a related bachelor’s or master’s degree program.
