Position Overview
Under direction, serves as the Joliet Inpatient Treatment Center (JITC) Mental Health (MH) Program Infection Control Coordinator; monitors the review of all suspected and proven infections. Utilizing the nursing process, plans and provides for the development and delivery of nursing care for clients receiving health care services for infectious diseases. Provides education and conducts training related to health and infection control issues; has responsibility for all facets of the Infection Control Program within JITC MH. Serves on-call as assigned.
Job Responsibilities
1. Serves as Joliet Inpatient Treatment Center (JITC) Mental Health (MH) Program Infection Control Coordinator.
2. Manages Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) mandated programs to prevent transmission of communicable diseases.
3. Utilizing the nursing process, plans and provides for the development and delivery of nursing care for clients receiving health care services for infectious diseases.
4. Provides education and conducts training in conjunction with the Training Coordinator in staff development providing classes to JITC MH Program staff related to health and infection control issues.
5. Completes mandatory training requirements and participates in continuing education workshops and seminars to maintain professional competency, serves as Chair of the Infection Control Committee, serves as an active member of the facility’s Environment and Safety Committee, Quality Council and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
6. Serves on an on-call basis as assigned for any problematic areas encountered in completing assigned duties.
7. Coordinates the employee Tuberculin Testing Program, the Hepatitis B Vaccination Program, Flu Shot Program and Covid 19 Vaccine Program.
8. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires (a) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing and two years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience; OR (b) a bachelor’s degree in nursing and one year of professional nursing experience; OR (c) a master’s degree in nursing.
2. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires ability to serve on an on-call basis.
2. Requires the ability to obtain the Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) within 2 years in accordance with the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation issued 3/9/2020, Executive Order 2020-10, and the Department of Human Services operational efforts to meet urgent public health conditions.
3. Requires the ability to serve on-call on a rotation basis, after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
4. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
5. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
6. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero-tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.

All Technicians are sent to College of DuPage for classes. Technicians are scheduled for a series of six mechanical and six electrical classes. Classes are during work hours, so Technicians are paid for their time in class. We adjust their hours to spend half their shift on the floor and the balance in the class. Jel Sert pays for this training which includes classroom and lab work. All Technicians are involved in this training despite their experience level.
