The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County seeks a Seasonal Roads Professional. The Seasonal Roads Preprofessional will assist with developing GIS maps used to support and take part in the road’s maintenance operations of the district. This position will teach operating equipment, performing asphalt and gravel maintenance, and supporting the upkeep of safe, accessible areas for public use. This position starts around April/May of 2026 and works for approximately 12 weeks. $18 – 20 per hour.
What You’ll Do:

• Assist with routine asphalt and gravel road maintenance activities, including seal coating, crack routing, crack filling, sweeping, asphalt patching, gravel application, and pothole repair.
• Operate small, motorized machinery and light equipment, including line trimmers, crack routers, blowers, compactor plates, and various hand tools.
• Operate District vehicles, including pickup trucks.
• Utilize GPS equipment to conduct field surveys of preserves and roadway systems.
• Keep accurate records of road conditions, vegetation, and wildlife observations.
• Prepare reports documenting maintenance activities, identifying areas for improvement, and providing input for future planning.
• Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits. Become familiar with and observe all applicable safety rules, policies, and procedures. Follow all safety rules related to assigned duties and support the District’s safety and risk management program. Maintain a clean, orderly, and hazard-free work area. Immediately report all unsafe conditions and incidents.
