Abrasive Form is seeking a Quality Engineer to join their team. The Quality Engineer creates and revises Inspection Work Instructions, Quality Alerts and Inspection Plans to reduce scrap, internal nonconformances, and customer complaints. This position is responsible for submitting Concessions and Deviations to customers for the acceptance of nonconforming product. The Quality Engineer provides training for the use of inspection gauges and CMM equipment use, supports NPI and Cold Starts with development of Control Plans, Process Capability support, Inspection Plans, and statistical analysis. The successful candidate is intimately hands-on supporting the daily manufacturing operations, exemplifies teamwork and collaboration and process improvement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Director of Quality, the Quality Engineer is responsible for delivering against the Quality strategy for results.
  • Submit Customer Concessions or Deviation Requests for nonconforming product. Evaluate, test, and over-inspect nonconforming parts to document the nonconformance condition for customer approval.
  • Communicate with customers regarding Inspection methods, gauges, Non-destructive and destructive testing specifications, and/or clarification of specifications or drawing issues.
  • Review Inspection plans during the NPI process.
  • Train operators and inspectors on the use of inspection gauging identified in Inspection Plans.
  • Perform internal and process audits and facilitate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Create work instructions and procedures in support of the AS9100D Quality Management System.
  • Interact with operators to gather input and feedback on product quality and inspection methods.
  • Participate in Kaizen, continuous improvement, and cost reduction efforts within company.
  • Create Pareto Charts for defect categories and implement corrective actions.
  • Periodically evaluate inspection results and report CPK and PPK value.
  • Control and drive down MRB on customer parts.
  • Participate in customer conference calls.
  • Support the daily manufacturing operation with majority of time spent on the production floor.
