workNet DuPage Update
Lisa provided the workNet DuPage update. The Center has been providing services virtually since March 20. The bi-weekly Job Club has seen a spike in attendance since moving to a live weekly virtual platform; attendance has nearly doubled. Best practices from the pivot to virtual service delivery will be implemented moving forward when the Center returns to “normal” operations. Additionally, the Center developed a From Layoff to Launch webinar series which replaces the WARN presentations geared towards individuals who were recently laid off.
The leadership team at the Center is currently working on a re-opening plan. The Center is often confused with the IDES office, so the Center will not open to the public without a plan in place to handle potential IDES customers.
There are currently funding opportunities available through DCEO and DOL. The Center received nearly 500K in IE monies to assist small businesses with layoff aversion. The grants include the Disaster Recover and Disaster and Recovery Grants through DOL. The applications for these grants are in process and a status will be provided at the next meeting.
Calvin Giles commented IDES is providing services virtually. They are working internally on re-open plans and staff return to AJCs. Calvin offered to assist with individual issues, information will be forwarded to Jamie.
Fiscal Report
Lisa reviewed the fiscal report. There is a shortfall in meeting the 80% obligation (currently at 77%) of 1D monies by 6/30/20, which has been exacerbated by COVID-19. Strategic measures have been put into place to obligate additional 1D dollars by the end of the program year.
WARN Report
Jamie reviewed the UI claims for DuPage County and industries most impacted by COVID-19.
Compliance
One Stop Certification (Office Hours) - Jamie explained to the group that the Center will be going through the certification process next month. The certification is required to be completed every three years. A team of WIB members will participate in the certification process and recommendations will be brought to the next meeting. The hours of the Center were discussed.
MOU - The MOU was shared with the group.
Youth RFP
Jamie explained that the WIB received seven responses from five entities in response to the Youth RFP that was released in April. The proposals are being scored and an update will be provided at the next meeting regarding contract awards.
Giving DuPage Foundation
The DuPage WIB Foundation donated $2,500 to Giving DuPage. Mary Keating explained the initiative and the Board watched a short success video produced by Giving DuPage.
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:57 a.m.
