The Illinois Tollway is hiring for an Auto Mechanic. Their Auto Mechanic repairs and maintains automobiles, trucks, tractors, salt spreaders, snowplows, construction equipment and machinery commonly used by the Tollway in maintenance of roadway and structures.
The Auto Mechanic must be highly skilled in all areas of automotive repair and maintenance, including the inspection of automotive and related equipment, as well as the participation in the documentation processes. The incumbent in this class should be skilled and have a thorough understanding of the functions of complex automotive components and diagnostics.
This person will be responsible for having the knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the automotive/equipment repair field, as well as the knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions used in the mechanical trade.
The Mechanic provides the ability and skills to use tools, machines, and equipment commonly used in the Automotive repair field, as well as the operation of electric arc, M.I.G., and acetylene welding equipment.
They will be responsible for handling the inspections of automotive, trucks, and other equipment for serviceability, in conjunction with the preparation of any necessary reports. Also, the Mechanic may be requested to work various shift times, as needed by ISTHA.
The Mechanic may be required to attend training sessions both on-site and off-site. In emergency situations, performs miscellaneous duties, such as snow and ice control, general traffic control, and is subject to call out for emergency maintenance service at all times.
