The City of Naperville is looking for a Network Engineer to work for its Electric Utility. This Network Engineer will be responsible for installing, maintaining, monitoring, supporting, and optimizing data communication networks within the Smart Grid Network and SCADA network in order to provide maximum performance, availability for the end users, and application teams. They will also configure and deploy reporting and monitoring tools to effectively manage network performance utilizing key metrics. Salary: up to $111,223.33 per year, dependent on qualifications. Duties:

  • Design and implement network additions/modifications to support Utility and IT initiatives.
  • Install, upgrade, and troubleshoot a variety of software, hardware and infrastructure which may include, but is not limited to: firewalls, routers, switches, servers, storage, VPNs, data backup and virtual infrastructure in the Utility IT, OT, and ICS networks.
  • Build and maintain network documentation of networks and server rooms.
  • Maintain network to maximize network availability, security, and data integrity for internal and remote users.
  • Optimize performance of network systems use of network monitoring utilities.
  • Perform network maintenance including patching network devices, applying hotfixes, and security configurations.
  • Troubleshoot and communicate network issues to staff and management.
  • Implement disaster recovery and/or incident response procedures.
  • Perform network baselining for Utility IT network.
  • Remediate vulnerabilities from network and participates in Utilities vulnerability management initiatives.
  • Assist OT Security Engineer in building and maintaining the Utility OT Network consistent with NERC CIP regulations/guidelines.
  • Resource for technology related projects. Lead project teams in the creation, evaluation, modification and implementation of network configurations to maximize network efficiency consistent with the Utilities existing technology investments and long-term strategic plan.
  • Prepare bid specifications for equipment, software and maintenance of the Utility networks; review bids and recommend awards based on compliance with specification to supervisor. Procure equipment as necessary according to established budgets.
  • Develop and maintain systems networking addressing required for effective connectivity and security, including IP addressing plus server, domain, and workstation identification; establishes documentation for the systems addressing process.
  • Prepare written materials (e.g., procedures, documentation, diagrams, and reports) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Provide training for other technical support staff focusing on the development of efficient PC and network hardware/software troubleshooting techniques.
  • Monitor trends in the computer industry to ensure maximum capability of computer equipment. Attend meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Assist OT Security Engineer in building and maintaining the Utility OT Network consistent with NERC CIP regulations/guidelines.
  • Serve as a backup to System & Network Administrators and assume system/network administration responsibilities as assigned. Assist DPU-E IT Team in resolving level 2 and 3 end user issues as escalated.
