Village of Downers Grove is seeking a Public Works Technician to join their team. This position performs skilled and unskilled work, including reading and interpreting utility atlas maps and physically locating Village-owned utilities in the field. A successful candidate will be skilled in reading and interpreting plans and blueprints and will be able to research, compile, and summarize a variety of informational and statistical data and materials. Conducts field inspections to locate and verify the locations of storm sewer pipes, water mains, traffic signal conduit, streetlight conduit, and Village-owned fiber optic lines.
Starting wages for this position are $56,374, increasing to $80,535 following six years of service. This full-time, non-exempt position is in the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150, Public Employees Division. The Village provides an excellent benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).

• Provides data for the maintenance of storm sewer and water main atlas maps for GIS applications.
• Assists the public with requests for information.
• Serves as backup and/or after-hours on-call rotation for J.U.L.I.E. locate requests.
• Assists in activities related to snow and ice removal, special events, and emergency situations as needed.
