After a layoff, Jashaun earns his CDL and a better paying job
Due to COVID-related layoffs, Jashaun lost his job as a fuel specialist but found opportunity at the workNet DuPage Career Center. His layoff qualified him to attend a job training program and receive career assistance – at no cost. With previous experience in transportation, Jashaun decided to obtain his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). After updating his resume, he landed a job he loves in no time.
“Almost immediately after my training I was offered a job that nearly doubled my previous salary,” says Jashaun. “My rebuilt resume also attracted tons of employers.”
The new full-time job pays well and is less physically demanding than previous jobs he held, something he appreciates as he gets older. workNet DuPage and his career counselor Marianne pointed him in the right direction, and he says the credential opened doors. In addition to the pay, he says the schedule is great, and he enjoys working for a family-owned company in Lombard.
If you’re headed to Ohio anytime soon, you might see the newly minted Over the Road Truck Driver on his way to Bowling Green, where he delivers recycled Coca-Cola bottles to the company’s warehouse. His current hours afford him time he values most, hanging out with his two young children, and that’s, well, frankly priceless.
