The Downers Grove Public Library seeks a compassionate, customer service-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to join the library’s Adult & Teen Services Department as a full-time Social Worker.
The Social Worker, an integral part of the library, is primarily responsible for developing rapport with library patrons, connecting patrons with social services organizations and resources, and fostering and growing partnerships between the library and community organizations. The Social Worker also supports other library staff in conflict mediation, crisis intervention, and de-escalation. In addition, this position is responsible for serving as the site supervisor of the library’s social work internship program.
This full-time position requires the completion of a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and the knowledge, abilities, and skills to:
• Provide information, support, and assistance for a wide range of ages and needs through direct phone calls, application help, referrals, and more
• Serve as a liaison between a community agency and a patron as needed
• Develop, maintain, and grow relationships with community organizations
• Apply the principles and practices of social work, crisis intervention, counseling techniques, and trauma-informed care
• Maintain and update the library social services resource guide, social services board, and jobs board
• Participate in and organize library programming and outreach events
Annual salary is between $54,979 and $61,851, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include vacation, personal, and sick leave; a generous insurance package; and enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension system.
The typical schedule for the Social Worker will be Monday 1-9:15 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m., in combination with the third weekend per month.
